Águas Azuis participates in SC Expo Defense 2022

Águas Azuis, Special Purpose Company (SPE) established between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer Defesa & Segurança and Atech for the construction of the frigates Classe Tamandaré for the Brazilian Navy, is among the exposers of SC Expo Defense, defense technology and products fair that happens March 19 and 20 in Florianópolis (SC).

During the event, the visitors will have the opportunity to know more details about this which is the most modern and innovative naval project already developed in the Country. “The construction of these four new ships is of crucial importance to broaden and modernize the squadron of the Brazilian Naavy”, says Fernando Queiroz, CEO of Águas Azuis.

After signing the contract with EMGEPRON in 2020, Águas Azuis started the development of the project Tamandaré in Itajaí, where is located the thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul, facilities where the industrial activity has already started. “The project is following in an accelerated rhythm and in accordance with what was planned. We have just finished, successfully, the Critical Design Review (CDR) and the structural assembly of the mock-up. Still this year, we will start the construction of the first frigate”, adds Queiroz, in addition to highlight that the program has the expectation of taxes of local content above 30% for the first ship and 40% for the others.

Acquired by thyssenkrupp in 2020, the Estaleiro Brasil Sul is one of the most modern in the country. Located in a region with strong naval vocation, in an area of 310,000m², it has high capacity of construction and applies the most innovative production processes with high level of automation and cutting-edge technology. In recent years, it already delivered great vessels, for example, ships for offshore operations of, approximately, 90 meters long with opening of 19 meters.

The companies integrating Águas Azuis have a solid and long relationship with Brazil, in addition to strong presence in many other countries. Leader of the partnership, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, company from Grupo thyssenkrupp, is one of the world leaders of naval submarine and surface vessels systems, as well as maritime security technologies with secular history of naval construction. Embraer Defesa & Segurança, business unit of Embraer, is present in more than 60 countries and is leader in the aerospace industry and defense in Latin America. Atech, subsidiary of Embraer, develops innovative solutions for air traffic control, control and command systems, cybernetic security, control and instrumentation systems, on board systems, simulators and logistics.

The naval alliance between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Embraer Defesa & Segurança will also allow creating bases for products export of naval defense from Brazil.

Thyssenkrupp is providing naval technology of its well-known platform of defense ships construction of Class MEKO, which already operates in 15 countries. Embraer is responsible for integrating sensors and weaponry to the combat system, incorporating to the Program its more than 50 years of experience in systems technology solutions and in-service support. Atech acts in other strategic projects of the Brazilian Navy, such as LABGENE (laboratory of nuclear energy generation), for which develops systems of Control and Protection and the tactical systems of combat missions for H225M/H-XBR SUPER COUGAR of the Brazilian Navy.
