The Jerônimo de Albuquerque Frigate (F201), the second of the Tamandaré-class, was moved this Monday (26) to the Itajaí-Açu River, in Santa Catarina. Initially, the vessel underwent the so-called load-out operation, which consists of transferring the ship onto a floating dock, followed by a controlled submersion until the vessel achieves its own buoyancy.

The load-out process was carried out as planned, without incidents. The dock submersion maneuver, followed by its movement to the quay, lasted about 5 hours: it began at 9 a.m., and by 2 p.m. the frigate was moored at the pier. From this point on, equipment installation and commissioning activities for the F201 will be carried out. 

The launching ceremony took place on August 8, with the presence of civilian and military authorities. In keeping with naval tradition, Mrs. Lu Alckmin, wife of the Vice President of Brazil, christened the frigate.

The F201 began construction in November 2023, with the cutting of the first steel plate, and underwent its Keel Laying Ceremony in June 2024, marking the start of the assembly of the ship’s blocks. The frigate was named Jerônimo de Albuquerque in honor of the first Brazilian-born commander of a Navy fleet. The vessel has significant combat capabilities to protect the more than 5.7 million km² of the Blue Amazon maritime area.
